Prosper Valley Farm has implemented sustainable practices since day one. We continually look for new ways to protect the environment and produce a product that is good for the community. The following is just a few examples of how we effectively make natural products that respect nature and the community:
We buy and sell locally to reduce gas usage and keep mileage low.
We do not use any chemical products on or near produce.
We are always looking for ways to reuse and recycle items. Canning jars, canning rings, egg cartons, and nursery pots are some of the items that are donated/reused/recycled. (Please feel free to contact us if you have jars, pots, or cartons that you would like to donate.)
Produce and fruit are picked daily to maximize freshness and storage life.
No fruit or produce is purchased from outside sources. This allows us to maintain the quality and consistency of our canned goods.
All animal stock; chickens, goats, steers; are grass fed and raised without hormones or antibiotics.
We buy corn from the local co-op and grow all our own hay.
The gardens are all fertilized by manure from the animals raised on the farm.
Compost is collected and used in the gardens every year.
Watson Creek Trout Stream runs through the farm and is protected by a riparian buffer zone.
We won’t ship in any plastics.
We support the Wykoff Co-op by donating to the Thrift Store several times per year. We buy their products and sell ours at the store.
We implement crop rotations, efficient water use, and minimum tillage practices.
Gardens are fertilized with manure from our own livestock.
